Green Mountain Power's Choose2bgreen program offers customers the opportunity to neutralize their carbon footprint and support the use and development of renewable energy resources. Customers can choose to sign up for Greener GMP, CoolHome, CoolDriver--or all three--to help fight global warming and climate change.

Greener GMP - Sign Up Today!
Through Greener GMP, customers of Green Mountain Power can choose to purchase energy from certified renewable resources equal to all or just a portion of their monthly use. Green Mountain Power purchases certified renewable resources equal to the portion of electricity each customer has designated and delivers it into the regional electric system. Energy purchased from certified renewable resources meets very high certification requirements and comes from new wind, new hydro, certain biomass, biogas or solar. We will purchase certified renewable Vermont resources. If enough operating Vermont projects are not available to fill the need, the funds will be used to support the development of new Vermont renewable resources.

Customers can choose to have Green Mountain Power designate renewable resources equal to 25 percent, 50 percent, 75 percent or even 100 percent of your monthly use. The additional premium for Greener Mountain Power for residential customers is currently 4 cents per kilowatthour.

CoolHome^sm - Sign Up Today!
CoolHome offers Green Mountain Power customers the opportunity to offset carbon dioxide emissions generated by the average Vermont home through a partnership with NativeEnergy and Clean Air-Cool Planet, a non-profit organization dedicated to finding and promoting solutions to global warming. Customers who sign up for CoolHome pay $6 per month for a year to offset six tons of CO2. NativeEnergy uses that $6 monthly payment to help finance the construction of renewable energy resources, including new Midwest wind farms and Vermont-based methane projects. These renewable energy projects reduce emissions from facilities in this region and "upwind" of Vermont, where coal-powered electricity is the norm and contributes to local acid rain impacts. All CoolHome carbon offsets are donated to Clean Air-Cool Planet for permanent retirement.

The average mid-sized car generates 1000 pounds of carbon emissions each month--or six tons a year. Through CoolDriver, Green Mountain Power customers can offset those emissions for $6 per month. A small car, which generates an average of 500 pounds of CO2 month, can be offset for $3 per month, and a large SUV that emits 1,333 pounds can be offset for $8 per month. Similar to the CoolHome program, NativeEnergy uses that monthly amount to finance the development of renewable energy resources, thereby decreasing our reliance on fossil fuels and reducing carbon dioxide pollution. All CoolDriver carbon offsets are donated to Clean Air-Cool Planet for permanent retirement.
