Protecting the nighttime environment and our heritage of dark-skies through environmentally responsible outdoor lighting

 

As part of our commitment to Vermont's beautiful landscape by day and equally inspiring star-filled skies at night, Green Mountain Power is proud to support the International Dark-Sky Association's (IDA) mission to preserve and protect the nighttime environment and our heritage of dark-skies through environmentally responsible outdoor lighting. Green Mountain Power now installs 100% Dark Sky lights (full cut off lights) in any new street and area lighting project (not including flood lights) as well as in the replacment of failed street or area lights. In the near future, Green Mountain Power will offer customers new LED technology that uses 30% of the energy current lights use while being 100% Dark Sky (100% directional in light output) all in an effort to support the IDA's goals in stopping the adverse effects of light pollution, raising awareness about light pollution, teaching the values of environmentally responsible outdoor lighting, and promoting responsible legislation, public policy, and standards.
